The Devil’s Marbles, Barrow Creek and the base of Mt Stuart

On the way to Alice Springs we stopped at the Devil’s Marbles. There we played on the rocks. The Devil’s Marbles are rocks that look like marbles and they are made out of granite.

In Barrow Creek we stopped at the old telegraph station. Inside it, it looks like a house. The telegraph station was built in 1872.  The telegraph line went from Adelaide to Darwin and then to England and joined Australia to the rest of the world. There wasn’t just a telegraph station there, there was a wagon shed and a blacksmith shop.

At the base of Mt Stuart, John Stuart calculated that this spot was the middle of Australia, but sadly for him it actually isn’t … but it was close.
